In his twenties, while working in Goodyear dealerships, Dan Honig was fortunate to learn from John Marchioni. John helped shape how Dan thought about business growth, perseverance, personal responsibility, positive behavior, and the culture required to build strong teams.
At the time, Dan did not think of the relationship as mentorship. He was young, focused on the work in front of him, and unaware of how deeply those lessons were taking root. Only later in life did he recognize that John’s example and guidance had helped form the foundation of the leader and entrepreneur he would become.
The experience taught Dan that mentorship does not always announce itself. A conversation, a standard consistently demonstrated, or an honest correction can influence someone long before they understand its importance.
That is why Dan believes established leaders have a responsibility to invest in younger people. A mentor may never immediately see the result, but the time, standards, and encouragement they offer can shape another person’s decisions—and the direction of their life—for decades.
Dan now carries that lesson forward by mentoring entrepreneurs and emerging leaders, sharing the principles that helped him build businesses, endure difficult seasons, and continue growing as a leader.
